چکیده

Hop-sterile (hop) is a new mutation in the mouse, the effects of which include complete male sterility, a 'hopping' gait and preaxial polydactyly of all feet. Ultrastructural studies of spermiogenesis show that sperm tails are absent or highly modified. Second meiotic division is frequently abnormal or incomplete, often with four centrioles per cell. These centrioles usually fail to form fiagella and sperm tail development is arrested.

Coiled-coil domain containing 42 (Ccdc42) is necessary for proper sperm development and male fertility in the mouse.

Spermiogenesis is the differentiation of spermatids into motile sperm consisting of a head and a tail. The head harbors a condensed elongated nucleus partially covered by the acrosome-acroplaxome complex. Defects in the acrosome-acroplaxome complex are associated with abnormalities in sperm head shaping. The head-tail coupling apparatus (HTCA), a complex structure consisting of two cylindrical ...

O-28: New Insights into the Mechanisms UnderlyingChlamydia Trachomatis Infection InducedFemale Infertility

Background: Chlamydia (C.) trachomatis is an obligate intracellular gram-negative pathogen affecting over 600 million people worldwide with 92 million new cases occurring globally each year. Genital C. trachomatis infection has been recognized as the most common cause of pelvic inflammatory disease leading to severe tubal damage, ectopic pregnancy, hydrosalpinx and infertility. However, the mec...

The Sept4 septin locus is required for sperm terminal differentiation in mice.

The murine septin4 gene (Sept4) has been implicated in diverse cellular functions, including cytokinesis, apoptosis, and tumor suppression. Here, we investigated the function of Sept4 proteins during mouse development by creating a targeted deletion of the Sept4 genomic locus. Sept4 mutant mice are viable but male sterile due to immotile and structurally defective sperm. During spermatogenesis,...

Gene Expression Profile of CatSper3 and CatSper4 during Postnatal Development of Mouse Testis

Channel activities, particularly those of calcium channels, have vital roles in the process of sperm maturation, motility and sperm-egg interaction. A group of the recently discovered ion channels associated with these processes is four novel channel-like proteins known as CatSper (cation channel sperm) gene family. CatSper1 and CatSper2 show sperm specific expression patterns. However, neither...

The testis anion transporter 1 (Slc26a8) is required for sperm terminal differentiation and male fertility in the mouse.

The Slc26 family is a conserved family of anion transporters. In the human, their physiological relevance was highlighted with the discovery of pathogenic mutations in several Slc26 transporters that lead to distinctive clinical disorders (Pendred syndrome, deafness, diastrophic dysplasia, congenital chloride diarrhoea) that are related to the specific distribution of these genes. We previously...
